SUNY New Paltz invites applications for the position of Director of Organizational Development and Training for Human Resources. This position reports to the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Human Resources, Diversity, and Inclusion. In partnership with the AVP, the Director will support, encourage, and coordinate the work of strong teams within Human Resources, and will contribute to improving institutional effectiveness and evaluating and enhancing campus climate and culture. The successful candidate will bring strong generalist skills and experience in human resources, and demonstrated success in organizational development and employee development and training. We seek an energetic, creative and responsive leader with a demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic partner across institutional units and roles. This leader will have the ability to synthesize complex issues into understandable expectations and solutions. This person will strengthen the Human Resources department through process improvement, relationship building, and consistent, effective communications.
In partnership with the AVP and human resources staff, the Director will foster an integrated approach to day-to-day department operations and delivery of high-quality service to faculty, staff and students. A core expectation of this position is to support the professional development of campus employees and their connection to, and investment in, campus culture. In part, this expectation will be met by creating and delivering effective programing for onboarding, diversity and inclusion, and employee competency development. A high degree of personal credibility stemming from the person’s ability to exercise integrity, sound judgment, objectivity and confidentiality is essential.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include:
• Work with HR staff and partner offices to improve responsiveness and application of best practices that support, faculty, staff, and administration, while balancing management and institutional needs
• Work to identify a range of learning options for employees (in-person workshops, online, etc.). Assist in the design and delivery of content to address development areas including, but not limited to, employee training, onboarding, mentoring, supervisory development, leadership development while assessing cost and quality factors.
• Communication skills require ability to share expertise, frameworks for success and to identify opportunities to work with and through issues, plans and projects
• Perform other similar or associated duties as required or directed

Qualifications

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field combined with significant experience in Organizational Development
• At least seven years progressive experience in Human Resources in a supervisory or leadership position
• Experience working in a diverse setting
• Effective project management skills
• Ability to build strong relationships with leadership, management, faculty and staff through a highly consultative, collaborative, and active-problem solving approach; positioning HR as a credible resource for various constituencies
Preferred:
• Master’s degree
• Experience working in higher education
• Knowledge of administration within collective bargaining environment
